Lapwings coming in to roost by julienne1

Lapwings coming in to roost

This was taken at Ham Wall Nature Reserve on the Somerset Levels. There was a lot of noisy squabbling and jostling for place on this small mud bank! It's obviously a favourite spot away from predators but not much space. I'm not having much luck this year with finding the right spot for the large starling murmurations. Along with many other hopeful starling-watchers I waited at the spot where they had been roosting over the last few nights but (again) they had decided to fly past towards the Shapwick reed beds. Ah well.....
very cool... fav

I think the lapwings are a worthy substitute

@rickster549 - thanks, I just wish it hadn't been so dark so I could get more detail

@peterday - I won't! There will be plenty more suitable evenings to try and catch them

@christophercox - they certainly are. We usually get large flocks across the Somerset Levels just below High Ham but I haven't seen any this year so far except at this Nature Reserve. Strange
