Candlesnuff Fungus - Xylaria hypoxylon

This strange fungus looks to me like deer antlers, even down to the velvety covering that they get - in fact amongst its common names are carbon antler fungus and stag's horn fungus

Those are amazing. I'd never heard of them before. This is a lovely shot. The lighting catches the tips so beautifully and the ferns are so delicate looking. Thanks for the lesson!
