Counting bees

I spent some time today looking at bees after being prompted by the current "Great British Bee Count" project https://www.foe.co.uk/bee-count . The one in this picture is Tree Bumblebee (Bombus hypnorum) which is actually a relative newcomer to the UK since first being recorded in 2001. It's quite a good way to get to know a bit more about these fascinating little insects that are so important to the balance of nature.
this is a very nice macro...wonderful detail on the bumblebee
