A rather misty start to the day at Ham Wall RSPB nature reserve on the Somerset Levels. It might look calm and serene - which in most ways it was - but the whole area was inundated with birdsong, the booming of bitterns, several very vocal cuckoos, the squawking of squabbling egrets, the drumming of woodpeckers, the screeching of water rails, the hysterical cackling laughter of little grebes, and a whole host of other early morning avian shenanigans
