It's good to see butterflies still able to bask in the warm sunshine even in late October. Strangely I've seen very few of these lovely Painted Ladies all through the summer, so it's even more of a bonus to be seeing them now.
Lucky you. I only saw a couple this summer. Some years, like 1996 when we didn't have digital cameras, there was an irruption which included York. It was almost impossible to walk properly for fear of hurting them, the most wonderful butterfly experience I've had in England. The 2009 irruption missed us. Maybe next year???
