St Mark's fly by julienne1

St Mark's fly

A species of Hawthorn fly. They do look rather like hairy monsters but they are quite harmless, feeding on nectar and very useful pollinators. They always appear around St Marks Day (25th April) and they only live for about a week as flies.
Aren't they lovely little beasties? Always a pleasure to see them flitting around in spring.
