0range tip butterfly

There are lots of orange tip butterflies around just now. I'm always amazed at the difference between the male butterfly's upper and under wings. When open the wing tips are a startling orange (bottom picture) which is very obvious from quite a distance. But when closed the underside of the wings merges completely into the white flower heads of the cow parsley (top picture)
oh ain't nature grand! these images show how well this butterfly both camouflages and attracts as needed :)

How many females have you seen this year, I've seen very few but lots of my Favrit Fella. Lovely images of this gorgeous butterfly

Gorgeous images. Fav.
Saw some Orange tip butterflies in my daughter's garden two weeks ago. They were 'visiting' cuckoo flowers.

@jesika2 I've not seen many but it's not always easy to be sure when they're flitting around fast! The males are much easier to see!
