This Peacock butterfly was enjoying basking in the sun on the warm surface of the road. Fortunately this is a track only used occasionally on a military range in the woods so it was quite safe. I like to think it maybe is an adult hatched from this nest of caterpillars just up the road https://365project.org/julienne1/365/2019-06-23
