Only a few decades ago there were none of these doves in the UK, but in recent years they have become quite common. Part of their success is that young birds tend to disperse in many directions, and end up settling many hundreds of km away from their birth site. We often have 8 of them in the garden at once around our bird feeder, helpfully mopping up any spillages.
We have had them nesting in or nearby our garden for the last 20 years or so and there is a pair constantly in the garden at the moment but so far canât decide where they are nesting.
Pretty bird. I think we have something similar in the South, USA, but we call them Ringneck Dove. They are a bit of a nuisance here as they take over the habitats of our native doves.
