Back in the land of industrial design

When I was in Berlin for a week in February, @vankrey noticed that the "new Junko" was photographing a lot of industrial design implying that he could hardly recognize me in it. I've decided to embrace that concept of the "NOW Junko" as intrigued by industrial design, if not a long term change-implying "new." So, plane has touched down in Berlin, and here we go! In pursuit of interesting and good industrial design.
Definitely a new 'you'! I still see 'you' though in the use of patterning and repetition.

If you miss this when you return to Chicago, I know where to take you in the Hammond area!

I like how the plane wing blends in so well with the tank battery, I had to really look to differentiate them.

Interesting repeating shapes. It's exciting to find new subject matter, isn't it?

Hi Junko! This is a really interesting field.
Maybe you know Bernd and Hilla Becher, who are best known for their extensive series of photographic images, or typologies, of industrial buildings and structures. They set up a school and have influenced many great modern photographers (if you are interested, here's a link to an interview with them: http://vimeo.com/22535786)

@taffy -- thanks for finding "me" in the midst of all this!
@jodimuli and @pflaume -- thanks for comments! And yes, new subject matter should be embraced, even if it's different from your usual style. Maybe even more if it's different?
@anwan I haven't been to photograph Hammond area but I think I've driven past it -- NW Indiana/S chicago area?

@mara19500 WOW, Mara! many, many thanks for the introduction to two photographers whose work I didn't know at all. I watched the entire video, backtracked and watched parts again, even took screen shots of some so I could process what it means to me. So interesting to hear two artists whose lives have been focused on how to capture, share and talk about industry as design and art. I really appreciate this link!!! Gives me new inspiration to think about how to capture the world around me now. Also, I've been merely walking up to giant examples of industry, trying to fit it into my frame, and snapping. Now I have new ways of thinking about how to capture them. Good thing I bought a tripod.

Compelling image. The repetition and simplicity of the shapes, combined with the low saturation, keep the eye moving around, but not leaving, the frame.

Industrial areas can be very interesting...I am looking forward to your captures.
