StaBi Pottsdamer Platz by jyokota

StaBi Pottsdamer Platz

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a photo of the former "East" library, the newly renovated Unter Den Linden Staatsbibliothek. Now, I present the former "West" library, located at Pottsdamer Platz. Apparently, it was the setting for a film called "Himmel über Berlin" or "Wings of Desire." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnbIZ2o3gWM

My assigned desk for the four months of my fellowship (#16) is the one just behind the pole on the right. Because this photo was taken around 7pm, most people had gone to dinner. Typically, the library is very, very full of people who are studying impressively quietly without making a sound. I chose this one from all the photos I took because it gives you a wider perspective of a large part of the library.
It's neat to have a shot and imagine where you are currently working. I also like the perspective with the multiple lines formed by the desks, the lights, the poles.

Another very big library!

So rectilinear, and such a big, echoey-looking room for quiet study. Where are all the books needed to absorb the sounds and keep it quiet?

Love the sense if scale

An assigned desk in a library? You must be having fun adjusting to German culture. This a very imposing space, must be quite inspiring.
