In our town of Evanston, Illinois (suburb adjacent to Chicago), there's a Fourth of July Parade with a local tradition I've never seen elsewhere. Beginning July 1, residents set up their chairs, mats, towels, etc. to reserve their spots for the parade. And nobody disturbs them. Does this happen in other parts of the world, that people "reserve" their spots for a parade days in advance?
I can't see that happening in Chicago with chairs for a parade, but when it snows and someone shovels their car out, they put chairs in the space to 'save' it for when they get back from work or wherever. And usually, no one disturbs their stuff.
