The Church of Saint Titus by jyokota

The Church of Saint Titus

A Greek Orthodox Church in the center of Heraklion with a jewel box encased skull of Saint Titus, disciple of Apostle Paul and first Bishop of Crete. Originally built during the Byzantine Empire, converted into a mosque during the Turkish rule, destroyed by earthquake and rebuilt as a mosque. Apparently, there was an exchange of people between Turkey and Greece in the 1920s and the minaret was removed at that time. My, how much I learn through the reading I do to post to 365 :)
Fantastic picture and story.

Beautiful! I was there last summer, it is always nice to see places one've seen before through someone else's eyes.

I too enjoy the research I do on posts - an unexpected joy from being part of the 365 club. Love the pastel coloured light on the ceilings. Reflections from the stained glass windows I imagine.
