Koru in Sunlight by jyokota

Koru in Sunlight

Taken in the wooded area leading up to the NZ Treaty Grounds.

LR story of the day: needed minimal editing as I liked it SOOC. Mostly cropping (thx to Taffy for feedback on that) and a little contrast.

Julia @julzmaioro tells me that this nature design influences how it serves as inspiration for man-made design as well. See her image example at http://365project.org/julzmaioro/around-and-abou/2016-10-05
It looks almost like a piece of sculpture!

Wonderful. These always seem to me more like animals than plants as they unfurl.

I love the elongated way you framed this! Fav!

I've seen a number of pics of koru, but this is an excellent example. The way you've framed the shot with the tight dof work very well, and I particularly like the light on the little hairs.

@jyokota Koru is what you call any unfurling fern .. not the variety..

@julzmaioro -- oh, I see. So instead of calling it "Koru Fern" I would just call it "Koru" as an act, or do I conjugate it and call it "Fern Koru-ing"?

Love this.

As quoted fro,m Wikipidia .... Koru.. maori for 'loop' is spiral shape based on the shape of a new unferling silver fern frond and symbolizing new life, growth, strength and peace. It is integral symbol in Maori Art, carving and tatoos....
Hope that helps..
