We had spent time shooting this geyser, all set up on tripods with filters, etc. But walking away, this double eruption popped up beside me so I swung my camera around and quickly took this image against the sunsetting in the background.
Simply stunning! It was an amazing site to see and I like how you've focused on the geyser in context of the mountain behind, and the radiant lines from the clouds.
That's one of the things I love most about photography. You can take an endless amount of time to get the perfect image; yet plenty often enough the best image is the one quickly snapped. Having said that, I suppose that is exactly why its good to put in the hours of practice...in order to be ready for when the opportunity presents itself.
