Steaming Rice for Breakfast by jyokota

Steaming Rice for Breakfast

I used a really shallow DoF for this one and the focus is on the rice. My question is -- does it bother you that the hands are out of focus? Should I have gotten more in focus, even if it meant slower speed or more grain?
makes me hungry !

For me the focus is OK. But I am not sure about rice for breakfast, sounds too much like porridge to me!

The focus is good for me but I would have focused on the one he was offering. But @taffy would be he best judge.

I think it's good. Going for the one in his hand would be tricky without getting the apron in focus, too, which would distract from the rice packets. Actually I might have cropped out more of the chef, maybe at the upper wrist to remove more of the orange and apron, leaving the rice as the most interesting thing.

Sitting in my hotel room, stomach growling, and then I see this. It makes me even hungrier and wishing I were there!

And I think the focal work makes it a strong composition.

It bothers me that the rice ball in his tongs is out of focus..maybe a narrow dof with that being the focal point?

I love the shot. All of it.

I like the focus. I think it would have been really hard to get a focus on the one in his hand, as obviously his had was moving. Good job.

The shallow DoF alludes to movement! Well done. Fav!

I like how the focus is on the forefront too. Helps you focus on the food but at the same time adds context to the overall composition.
