Cathay Hotel Hallway by jyokota

Cathay Hotel Hallway

Back in the 1930s, my mother immigrated to Shanghai with her parents and she lived in this hotel for some months before moving into a house. The Japanese Suite was their designated "home."
Looks quite elaborate

Perfect symmetry, very grand looking, and exciting I'm sure to have been able to see you mom's temporary home.

A beautiful corridor - must’ve been quite moving to see where your Mum lived for a while.

A hotel with a family history! How great to have this photo - presume you couldn't go into the "Japanese Suite"!

Perfectly symmetrical! Would be an even better shot if there's more of the ceiling

This passage appears dignified through a generous width
and has a stylish atmosphere. The golden tones make the whole sphere very classy and elegant. The contrast to the dark dados and intermediate elements is beautiful.
You tell a very interesting background to this hotel. You associate it with a personal story. May I ask why your mother immigrated to Shanghai?

A most wonderful example of Art Deco. Love the way I am reminded of falling into a dream. Fav.
