iphone Pano of Polar Chicago

Taffy and I braved the cold and went to do some photography along the lake. I took a pano with my Canon, but the iPhone one turned out pretty good right out of the phone! Sigh. So much for all the heavy camera stuff we carry around.

DSLR pano here: https://365project.org/jyokota/365/2019-01-26
Oh isn’t that annoying? Pretty cool shot in more ways than one!

Fabulous pano Junko!! Both images are great but the iPhone definitely the better one. Yes why do we have all that heavy equipment? I had a shot on TT a couple of weeks ago and it was an iPhone image. I am thinking seriously about my heavy camera and lenses!!

Yes, this one is better. You’d be happy with the other if you didn’t have this to compare.

Don't be so quick to dismiss the value of that heavier equipment. "Better" is a somewhat subjective thing. The whole point of a pano is to achieve much higher resolution than could be achieved with a crop of a single wide shot - something that cannot be assessed from the less-than-screen-res images shown here in the 365 project. If all you need is a photo for a website, then iPhones would do for a great many things that we might otherwise demand better resolution and quality for.

To follow the logic of that point through, then a crop of a single photo would probably look better than a pano from any device if all that was needed was screen resolution.

I love the iphone pano, great to see the comparison, fav!

I agree that this pano turned out pretty darn well! great to do the comparison, these phone cameras are becoming so awesome

Yes the iPhone image looks quite good, but I think the Canon image has more dynamic range and less distortion

As @mwerner Says, there will be a huge difference in image quality, but the fact that one can take everyday shots with a mobile phone, and get great results has often made me think about the thousands I've spent on cameras and lenses. Good shot BTW.

Those IPhones do an amazing job.

I have given up on my camera for shots like these. My phone always does it with too much ease.

I know, must admit I take most of my pics with my phone nowadays as carrying my DSLR for too long aggravates an old whiplash injury!

Great shot Fav

Superb on both counts -- I'm guessing for enlarging, only the Canon version would work. But for everyday uses, it's incredible how the iPhone makes our big cameras unnecessary!

Beautifully sharp image, like your composition

Brrr. Lovely clouds, composition, reflections and nicely exposed

I've been starting to wonder how long before phone cameras replace 'real' cameras for most people. They're getting better and better. @taffy is right about enlarging, of course, but how many of our shots do we actually enlarge. Mmmm, food for much thought.

Great image with the iPhone! For panos and landscapes, the iPhones do produce striking shots.
January 29th, 2019
I do think that this is better for the pano.

Both are incredible and I think iPhone shots have great merit. Fav!

Beautiful city shot.

Lovely panorama, only the bit of snow (I think it's snow) gives away how cold it is.
Quite amazing how good the images are from phones these days! It's a bit of a secret but one of my best selling images is a phone pic ;)

@casablanca -- You are SO sweet to remember, and to check in on me. I've really had a horrible month, but I feel you have invited me back into the community. Thank you.
