I bought peanuts JUST to attract blue jays, and the sparrows have been happily eating them. But I finally spotted what I thought was a juvenile blue jay on the feeder. A local birding friend thought it could be a finch but another birding friend said the beak was not a finch's. Does anyone know for sure?
Having now checked Merlin ID, Ebird Pro, and having polled various birders in the area including a PhD in Ornithology from U of Chicago, it's been suggested that it could be a grosbeak or a juvenile bluebird or a juvenile indigo bunting. But the first reaction people have been giving me is -- its a bird. or, what on EARTH is that bird? So clearly, this bird's ID is stumping us.
