Love his face. I had thought the thing was meat when I saw the small version -- now it looks like slowly melting ice cream, but that doesn't really make sense to me!
It almost looks like hokey pokey (I don't know if you get that all over the world though!), and I'd also considered some kind of pottery - I'd thought maybe glass-blowing but the pole is wrong, or a building resin or something... basically I have no idea!
The background doesn't really offer much clarity either...
Sorry for mostly being off-line while traveling! The answer, which so many of you guessed surprisingly quickly, is ice cream! Dondurma, the Turkish ice cream, is stretchy enough to play with!
