Home LIbrary: Eric Carle

I continue to struggle through this month of the library project. SO hard to get the lighting and color and all that right. It's a bit off centered, and and and .. . . But oh, well. One must finally say "enough." I just can't get it to @Rosiekerr standards.

In Japan, "Goods" is the English word borrowed into the Japanese language to refer to all the peripheral "stuff" related to children's books that are sold for children, but also to teen and even to young adult women. Toys, charms, miniatures, and more. Once for Christmas, my sister (who had young children at the time) went to McDonalds every week to gather the Eric Carle finger puppets that were in the Happy Meal boxes. I've always wondered, though, why he has so many books that have characters with superlative qualities -- very hungry, very quiet, very lonely, very busy. On the other hand, the original title Eric submitted for the caterpillar book was "Willy the Caterpillar" (I can't remember for sure the name of the caterpillar but it was some first name and it was his editor Ann Beneduce who suggested The Very Hungry Caterpillar instead. And what a book it's been! Fun storytelling for sure. Just let your children know that a butterfly doesn't emerge from a cocoon but from a chrysalis. On the other hand, caterpillars also don't eat through the range of foods this one does. Perhaps the most distinctive aspect of his work is his singular use of a mixed-media and collage technique he has made his signature style.
What an informative post!

I loved this book, eith the rope caterpillar running through each page. Adore your edit of your book shelves.

I am so enjoying your project, I'm sorry it's causing you angst though.

@ukandie1 goodnight! I’m finally in bed. Hours and days and weeks don’t mean anything when you are always just home and alone. Keeping some semblance of schedule has not been easy. Sleep well and sleep in!

Lovely edit Junko. I read The Hungry Caterpillar to hundreds of children during my teaching career but always added the chrysalis correction :)

Great way of documenting part of your library, focusing on one particular part but also being able to see the scale of the rest of the library

You've found a wonderful way to depict this shelf! Even those of us, too old to have read his books as children, remember them fondly from storytime with our own children and now the grandchildren!
