The weather has been abysmal, so digging back a few weeks, I took this during February when I was having a black and white month, it didnt work in black and white as you can probably imagine, the colour is important to this image. The wasp dragged this spider across the grass for a few metres then disappeared with it into a hole in the ground. I have read that they then lay an egg on it and seal it in an underground compartment as live food for the larva, which, when it has had its fill spins a cocoon and will hatch next year.
@kali66 It's an amazing image which tells the nature story well. I have never seen this before so am pleased to see your image. I do agree the blurry blade of grass is distracting, but the story is great.
@anne15 E , what do you think of this image? I have boosted the red a little, and I am not happy with the blurry blade of grass in the foreground....plus its not sharp all over.... good enough as nature entry or not? maybe there is a song title to go with it lol
@kali66 In nature competition the nature story is the first priority, artistic merit comes second... but I think you are right, some judges will pick up on the blurry blade of grass. I think it will be judge dependent, but at the end of the day it is your opinion that counts as it is your image. :)
This is an amazing shot, with incredible detail and use of color to make the insects pop. The eye is a clear as can be -- and well worth saving this to see it in color!
I want to FAV this but its so scarey I just couldn't get my finger to respond, since I don't think I want to see this again. But, it's spectacular, really. Amazing. But glad its not bedtime here.
