what the cat dragged in

a tiny stoat
Hope you were able to dispose of it, one less to kill our birds!

3 cheers for your cat ... hope he gets the rest of them as well ... but tell him not to worry about bringing them inside..

Looks a sad little thing. At least they kill to eat it's only man that kills for pleasure.

I had never heard of a stoat before....I think his coat is pretty. Was he already dead in the photo?

@julzmaioro @maureenpp gave the cat an extra pat on the back, unlike when i catch it with birds! now buried beside a berry bush.
@dave1947 these are a pest in New Zealand, cats catch and kill them occasionally but they dont eat them, they smell nasty @trinkaholub if it wasnt a natural born killer it would be considered cute. thankfully it was dead on arrival.

Well done cat!, but I do feel sorry for them landing on the wrong island.
January 15th, 2019
What a clever cat - these critters are killing machines!

I love my inside cat - lol

I love stoats, vicious or not, it's obviously not as vicious as the cat - but they are native here and part of the ecosystem, and getting rarer

Surely they're not native to NZ, so a good thing to have killed it?? Our's brought in a shrew last night- still alive (as is cat!).

Cats bring such interesting gifts!! They are good hunters, that's for sure!
January 15th, 2019
Your cat is so thoughtful. Smile.

I am learning about snoats today!
January 15th, 2019
Oh, stoat. No wonder google couldn't find it.

A carpenter we had working on our house had a cat that put a squirrel in his bed, and a magpie

Blasted little things - well done cat - they've found their way onto Orkney (possibly come in with imported hay ) and have become a massive pest - to the point that there is an eradication programme happening
January 15th, 2019
@shannejw perhaps we should export them!
January 15th, 2019
@ingrid2101 oh no that is terrible, the islands off the coast of New Zealand get infested from boat visits etc. pest eradication is a huge problem here, everything the settlers introduced upset the balance.
January 15th, 2019
@primitiveprobe very generous lol
January 15th, 2019
@30pics4jackiesdiamond no not native, they were introduced to deal with the rabbits that were also introduced... sigh , they prefer to eat the new zealand native fauna.
January 15th, 2019
Aw, he's cute. I like his little paws. Too bad to hear he's a local pest. My cat thought he was a hunter too, though he liked to bring in snakes just to play with.

I would rather not be gifted with such things, but then as I am pet free, it is unlikely to happen. They don't come more squeamish than me.
