Black Petrel

Found this injured bird on the beach today and rang the Department of Conservation who came and retrieved it for its safety. These birds breed only here on the West Coast of South Island, New Zealand and are listed as vulnerable. First time i have seen one.

Hate to see any injured creature, let alone a vulnerable one. Thank you for doing the right thing and calling for help--you're a hero!

Beautiful animal, how big is it? I do remember my daughter finding a barn owl hatchling resting on our bathroom windowsill some 17 years ago. Yes I do still remember, what an adventure for the girl!

@domenicododaro the Petrel wing span is about 1m, much larger than a seagull. a barn owl baby would be a thrill to see, we only have one owl in NZ and not very large.

Beautiful bird, I hope it recovers and well done on the rescue, I was reading an article today on how world wide animal populations have decreased by nearly 70% over the last 50 years. We need to save everything we can
