I found a bird nest fallen under the pine trees today. I was fascinated to see 3 different kinds of plastic threads amongst the dried grass, leaves and pineneedles, the deep cavity was lined warmly with dacron, feathers from a few kinds of birds and copious amounts of dog hair. When i looked inside i was sad to see three cold naked babies.
A warm and fuzzy start to your story, but my heart sank at the end. Once, when we were camped out in the bush, I was darning in the mohair ends of a multi coloured garment I had made. I noticed a bird coming and going to a nest in a nearby tree. It was picking up my mohair ends from next to my chair.
Kali, a true story of nature. It has little compassion.
@ethelperry wht a cool thing to see Ethel. I'm a knitter but had read advice not to put yarn out for the birds. I think the advice was written for folks who put stands out rather than bits. I love the idea of the birds sneaking up beside you and getting the yarn bits.
