Faye is 81. She is blind and can only hear with a powerful hearing aid. She lives alone, but has home help 3 times a week. She spends most of her days on this couch listening to the radio and talking to friends, and some of her family in Australia, on the phone. Once a week she goes to a home visit group for afternoon tea, and to church on Sunday. She has lived in this house since she got married, but lived in the house next door when she was a girl so she has lived here all her life. There are several old fruit trees in her back yard, and every year we go to get plums and apples, which i process into jam and sauce etc to give some back to her, as she can no longer do this. Faye is always cheerful when we visit, a very resilient lady.
In my opinion, this looks much better in B/W than it would in color. Very good light from the side and the details like greeting cards on the heating, walking stick in her hand and protective sheets on the couch make the scene absolutely authentic. Sometimes, careful planning of set-up and composition would not give better results than reality!
Good luck and health to the strong, life-experienced lady!
And congrats to you for the fantastic shot!
