silver eye (aka waxeye, tauhou)

I have always wanted to take a bird picture with a clean background such as this. these little birds are such fun to watch as they flock in to rummage through the compost. and inspect the leafless fruit trees for bugs.
The background is perfect. The bird looks pretty good too

Gorgeous shot, love the background, it appears that the colour of the bird is reflected there in some spots. Nice lighting and a cute little bird too.

Cute! I don't ever get nice bright eyes when I take pics of birds. This reminds me of those little fake birds that people put in their house plants :-)

@m9f9l lol, I go to all that effort and it looks fake LOL. bright eyes are very important.

@adayinmallacoota do you have these where you are? they came from Australia, they think perhaps on the rigging of the sailing ships or blown in storms, although both of those seem really out there to me. The maori name means little stranger, because they were noticed as newcomers, very plentiful here nowadays

Ha!! I didn't say yours looked fake.. it REMINDS me of those fake ones..... Don't see those fake ones so much anymore. I remember them from the 70's and 80's...

what a sweetie

@kali66 I'm not certain if we have them here where I am. I like the maori name for them though. Apparently they came to NZ in the 1800's, believed to have been blown off course. They are extensive travellers, each year they travel 1600 kilometres from Tasmania as far as North Queensland (and maybe NZ!)
