I know what that is. I have seen very similar forms on the sand beach (on my Australia trip last year). The sea makes such structures when it kisses the sandy shore and a wave ebbs.

The interesting thing is getting my head around whi footsteps in the sand stand out-upwards. It is the same with these patterns.
