A Grey Spring Day

North Providence, Rhode Island
It was pouring all morning, so my original plan was to go downcity at lunch for some street photography in the rain. Unfortunately, it stopped raining. Adjusting the plan, I decided to go to the Broad Street section of Pawtucket for a neighborhood photo. Driving down Douglas Pike, though, I saw these reflections in the Wenscott Reservoir (Twin Rivers) and with the light mist I thought it would make a very interesting low contrast scene. The lone mallard cooperated by swimming through the scene at just the right distance to be silhouetted by the reflection of the distant white house. I intentionally kept the contrast very low since I felt it added to the overall grey mood of the scene.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, region, contrast, boost black, and protect highlights. a levels adjustment was added in PSE.
@cejaanderson Thanks, Jane! I've always wanted to photograph the reflections here, but this was the first time both the conditions, and my time actually coincided!
@trevjk3 Thanks, Trevor! I really lucked into this one. Expecting rain all day, the photo plans were dashed when it stopped, so I was happy to spot this scene.
@davie Thanks, Davie! It's a departure from my normal high contrast style, but I thought the softer feel fit the mood.
@tryingforsighs Thanks, Rachel! I must remember to get those houses at night during the Christmas season when they have their decorations up.
@justaspark Thanks for the fav, Jule! When do you leave for Rome?
