Colonial Militia Encampment

This weekend marks the end of this year's annual Gaspee Days celebration. (Gaspee Days commemorate the burning of the British revenue ship H.M.S. Gaspee by Rhode Island patriots on June 9, 1772 and is considered the first planned act of rebellion by the American Colonies.) Various militia groups from around New England gather in Pawtuxet Village on the final weekend of the Gaspee Days celebration and hold a colonial encampment. The camps are open to the general public, and you'll find the members of the militias to be very well versed in colonial camp life and are fluent in the history of the Gaspee affair. Their outfits are historically accurate, and the activities in which they engage during the encampment are also historically accurate. In the scene you see before you, a young girl is working on her needlepoint while the men of the camp discuss the events of the day. The encampment sets the stage for tomorrow's reenactment of the Burning of the Gaspee.

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment and a sepia photo filter at 50% density was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2014/i-bkBfVcr/0/XL/2014%2006%2014_0066%20copy-XL.jpg
