This is a pair of Turkey Vultures I spotted in a corn field. Turkey Vultures are pretty common in my neck of the woods (Kansas), but I've never gotten lucky enough to capture two taking flight at once! Love their wingspan! By the way, I've been posting tips from a National Geographic workshop called People and Places. I learned from photographer, Catherine Karnow, that she rarely, if never, crops photos. So I've been trying to take more time positioning my camera. Of course, this is difficult when you're trying to capture bird shots. So I got lucky with this one - no cropping needed at all! I also was reminded that if you are patient, surprises will happen. I sat for quite awhile as these two Buzzards hid amongst the corn stalks. Suddenly they took flight and I was thrilled to capture their glorious wingspan at such a close range.
