So this is what our orchard looks like after the snow has been and almost gone.
The poles are all concreted in and usually stand over 3 metres tall, but as you can see they are a mess right now.
Thankfully it looks like we are able to put in an insurance claim, so fingers crossed that they approve it once they come out an access the damage. We lost a few fruit trees, that were doubled over and touching the ground. However most fruit trees only lost a few branches here and there, so we are very lucky. The fact that it is winter here are the trees where not fruiting was a bonus for us and the fact that we had only pruned them not so long ago also worked in our favour.
I did wake up quite sick this morning from being outside in the cold fighting with the snow and trying to save the trees.
Today I am grateful for a string of nice warm cups of lemon tea. They were quite refreshing and soul soothing I am also grateful for the couch, which provided me a nice space to lie down and rest during the day.
I hope your body and spirit and orchard recover from the snowy assault quickly. It's easy to see the amount of time and labor you've put into your orchard, and heart breaking to see the damage.
Oh my goodness, that is a lot of damage. I do hope the insurance company will come fast to assess and settle the claim.
Feel better, keep drinking your tea and stay warm.
