Eastern Quolls by kgolab

Eastern Quolls

These guys, the Eastern Quolls, grow to a length of around 33cms and weighing in at around 1 kilo each, are about half to a third of the size of their cousins the Spotted-tail Quoll who range in weight from around 2 kilos for a female and 4 kilos for a male of the species.

They are quite common in Tasmania, but I believe they became extinct on the Mainland of Australia around 50 years ago.

We have these little guys roaming around our property from time to time, as they venture beyond the protected wildlife sanctuary near our home. Therefore we have to ensure that our chickens, geese and ducks are all locked up tight at night, as Quolls, being nocturnal animals, have a reputation for attacking them under the cover of darkness.
These little things are so cute! I like their spots. Yeah, it was a nocturnal possum that came back and killed every single rooster and hen I had. I did everything but electrify their coop and still it got in!

They are not quokkas but have an equally interesting name! Look a bit like rats to me but I guess they are quite different!

Interesting looking, not so cute and cool if they kill your chickens....

They are rather unusual looking, not the best animals to have running around at night though.
