Thomas Jefferson was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence. He was our third president. As president, he was responsible for the Louisiana Purchase, which encompassed lands that would become 15 present-day states, including my home state of Iowa. The Jefferson Memorial was constructed between 1939 and 1943.
Great night shot. I love the photos of our historical places. You live in an area that is bursting with history from all periods. I live in northern Maryland at the top of the bay, and I really enjoy the history in the Md., Virginia, Pa and D.C. area. Thanks for all the kind comments you left on my photos ! Glad to be following you now.
TJ!!! One of my favorite memorials in D.C. Your shot could easily be put in a guide book or CoC brochure! Superb again Karen!! Those construction dates for the memorial are quite revealing, no?
@taffy Thanks, Taffy. It's tough to do something original with monuments like this. It largely entailed setting up, waiting patiently for unobstructed shots, and holding my breath to snap the shot. I want to learn more about time lapse photography next. The monuments are so well lit, they don't require it.
@mullejf Thanks, Jeff. Your area of Maryland is beautiful. It's nice to have easy access to all of the history of the mid-Atlantic, isn't it. You're welcome for the comments on your photos. They're great!
@davydo Thanks, Dave! It was a nice night to be outside waiting for a clear shot. The temperature was much warmer than when you and Debbie were here! Too bad we didn't get to this memorial in our ramblings while the two of you were here.
