George Washington's Grist Mill by khawbecker

George Washington's Grist Mill

George Washington built a grist mill on this site in 1771 and produced superfine flour using two imported French burrstones. The original mill was torn down in 1850, but rebuilt by the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1932 to celebrate the bicentennial of Washington's birth. In 1997, Virginia transferred the mill to the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, which owns and operates George Washington's Mount Vernon.
It's a great capture of older architectural elements and interesting to read the background.
