Paying My Respects

Today is Memorial Day in the United States. It is a day to remember those who died in the armed services. This day of commemoration began after the U.S. Civil War. In a local cemetery, there is a Civil War section where I found these Iowa infantry tombstones. The oldest gravestone I saw in the section pre-dated the Civil War for a man who died in the Black Hawk War of 1832.
Powerful picture for this Memorial Day. thank you for sharing
