A bronze bear that could empathise with those going through strife is installed on the grounds of Hutt Hospital.
The 2.7 metre high sculpture, called the Big Man, is of a polar bear wearing a hooded sweatshirt - representing global warming issues.
The E Tu Awakairangi Hutt Public Art Trust bought the bear because they thought it looked empathetic, comforting and provided solace, which was perfect for a hospital.
It certainly draws the attention of all passer-bys.
