Seal colony at Kaikoura

Just look at those crazy rocks. This is part of the uplift which happened in the Kaikoura earthquake. So much more of these rocks are above the tideline now. The seals haul out on these rocks which is quite a trek for the seal-spotting tourists. The rock formations are fascinating.
amazing texture in the freshly uplifted part, was probably like that further ashore before the sea smoothed it

You are moving up the coast! Good to be able to stop and capture the seals -so many of them!

@maggiemae heehee - I am so far behind with uploading my November photos - I have been down to Christchurch and then back home again now. I'm playing catchup forever. We had a great trip but since we have been back, I have been spending much of my days weeding and planting the vegetable gardens - maybe I should take photos of my progress.

@yorkshirekiwi We have been following the rebuilding of the road and rail tracks with much interest since they reopened the coastal road. It is amazing what they have achieved but the scars are still raw especially along the shoreline.

@kali66 Yes no doubt that is true. I never swum under the sea to check it out though. LOL
