In truth if you look her hand is just hanging there by one claw which is pretty hilarious as she was fast asleep. I could not get her attention about 25 m high up this tree, but Dewdrop really had me chuckling :) Thank you for the awesome comments and questions on my photos here in my happy place.
@s4sayer you nailed it 'fur to die for'. Their coats are amazing - soft, dense, springy and water repelling. For this reason when white man invaded this country they were killed in their millions (online you can see photos of carts loaded with pelts in the thousands at a time). In the late 1800's, early 1900's it was prized as the best pelt for coat and hat making. Finally in 1927 the government banned this, realising that we had nearly wiped them out.
This was the beginning of the end for them as they were killed nearly to extinction and their forests cut down. Now just a tiny percentage are struggling to find enough trees to eat in the new landscape.
