alternate title - where's a knife and fork when you need them? that is one wide leaf alright but Summer persisted and ground it down :) Thank you for the awesome comments and questions on my photos here.

@shutterbug49 I so wish they were as their teeth work really hard! The only way to tell the age of a koala is by how much wear is on their molar teeth. We do find geriatrics at times whose teeth are so worn they can no longer grind the leaf up so it would have been a great boon of nature to grow new ones :)
@fbailey oh yes eucalyptus leaves are very tough! they also have a low calorie content, so the koalas have to literally stuff themselves and really grind them down first. they are hind gut fermenters, (like a giraffe or horse) not ruminants (like goats and cows), so that grinding as a first action is critical. Then they sleep for hours so the digestion can happen :)
@fbailey only if there is habitat left for you - they are racing towards extinction. oh do you mean come back as a koala on my property - now that would be THE life indeed :)
