Dodgem by koalagardens

Dodgem

I stopped the bike when I saw Newman (in the previous 2 days photos) and got off and took photos of him. Got back on the bike and continued my daily spotting.
I happened to come back along a track approaching the tree again and was stunned to find Dodge had been hanging out on a limb here the whole time and I had stood right under him to photograph Newman - and had not seen him!
Proving yet again, that my amazing koala counts are always the minimum koalas on the property, but never the full sum of who is really there. Who knows how many I miss that are in plain sight, let alone when they are hiding!
I love his nose pattern!
Thank you for the awesome questions and comments on my photos - ask away!
Such a lovely animal, the eyes made contact

I do this with galahs in the trees. You would think a galah would be easy to see but no. I think I've seen them all and then they take off and I'm always amazed at the number that were there right above my head.

“Hello, nice lady. I was up here all along. I like it here!”- Dodge

lookin' smug!

Great to find him!

I love your Koala shots. Does Dodge have an ear tag or is his ear just red on the inside?

Lovely shot of him :)

His pink nostrils are splendid, super shot!

So cute ! he seems to muse " Ha ha ! you didn't find me !! How do you keep track not only of nose patterns but also the names -- I am completely befuddled !!
July 25th, 2019
Great shot of him just sitting up there so comfy.
July 25th, 2019
He's looking rather smug that you didn't spot him immediately. Fav!! 😀

@beryl I keep a file with a clear photo of each koala's nose, and the file is named with the koala name. I constantly trawl through this whenever I am not sure of a nose I see :)

@gardencat he sure does have an ear tag. He was hit by a car about 1 km down the road from here in early June. We released him here on July 1 and he has been seen on the property about half the days of July :)

Wonderful capture, like the look on his face!

They must be hard to spot, they blend so well
July 25th, 2019
Well he must like it there. Hope he stays safe. I wouldn’t have thought Koalas would be down on the road much since they seem to spend most of their time up in trees ...but then I realize I know very little about them actual, mostly what I’ve seen on the odd nature show, your posts and a brief glimpse of some at the Taronga Zoo several years ago.

@gardencat they certainly should not be on the ground and on the roads but their habitat is so quickly dwindling due to humans, they are being hit by cars at an alarming rate. In just this area in the past year we picked up over 60 koalas that died from car hits :(
July 25th, 2019
Bet he had a little giggle knowing you hadn’t seen him !
July 25th, 2019
Does he spy on you?
July 25th, 2019
@samae @pyrrhula I'm pretty sure he was more concerned about just being very still and quiet because Newman had him bailed up there than worrying too much about me :)

Great shot

I can see why you might miss seeing someone - hard to see up there! He looks very content.

What a sweet face
July 26th, 2019
How sad that they get hit by cars so often

It's interesting to read the questions and answers, too, along with the comments on your koalas. You give us such a wonderful nature lesson with your shots and commentary.

Super capture.

Sorry to hear about habitat loss. It is happening at an alarming rate.

@milaniet I'm so glad you enjoy to read through these - it's such a great place here, I love when questions get asked :)
July 26th, 2019
@moonmtn yes indeed - the destruction and climate change together are phenomenal the world around!
July 26th, 2019
It's nice to see that it's all right. And I understand your anxiety when someone is missing. Lovelt portrait.
July 27th, 2019
