Bullet was a champion, all set up in the tree right beside the house to give some instant gratification and huge photo opportunities to the small crowd that attended the field day.
I can't begin in text to describe the success of the day and the humbling experience for me to be held up as the 'gold standard' in conservation work for the koala. I just consider myself an ordinary girl doing what I love.
But we know the koala is dying out at a seriously alarming rate - so hopefully as a result of work I now do with the government, we can help thousands of private land owners to change the world, one acre at a time!
If you got this far - the is the first image I've now shot in RAW with my trusty old canon, and I am an instant convert, I wish I had everything in the past stored away RAW, but at least now I have the updated gear to begin working with this format.
Congratulations, not only for this wonderful shot but also your successful day. It must be a great feeling knowing that your work is being acknowledged. A big fav for both 😊
@brigette I look so much more intelligent with my computer in front of me as I record daily data into a database that does extensive reporting. then I have a file of nose patterns that I always refer to when a new or possibly new koala comes along. but Bullet here is a regular colony member so I know him well, especially as I rescued him last year after a dog on a neighbouring property bit him. He is very lucky to be alive and spent a long time in a wildlife hospital. He ripped the tag out of his ear after release so he is especially easy to identify now!
The youngsters have just dispersed so the colony now has around 5 adults, 2 sub adults and 3 joey's on back.
However there are many koalas on the move, more than usual and there were 20 individuals seen on the property last month, so many of them of course are not colony members but koalas dispersing and looking for a home. Their habitat is dwindling so fast that many of those dispersing don't make it safely to a new home. Hence my job now is to get more landowners creating habitat for koalas to disperse to :)
@photographycrazy thanks, I'm really excited with the whole new learning experience of having the latest full adobe suite and raw images to play with from both cameras! life is so good!
Congratulations on the recognition of all your hard work! Let’s hope there is success on other landowners acres! This is a fabulous image! Well done on going RAW you won’t regret it!
Congratulations -for all you have achieved - you must be very proud and lets hope more farmers and landowners will see the light and follow your example ! What a gorgeous image , of course Bullet had to be the Champion of the day ! :) He looks such a wise old man !! fav
This is wonderful! Perfect name -Bullet- accelerating to the future. So proud of you and all that you do for this beautiful animals!!! Shooting RAW is the best way to go -
A fabulous shot, Bullet looks every bit the " event koala." Congratulations to you & I do hope many more landowners join the cause. ' Ordinary ' people with dedication can work wonders....
@koalagardens I am also keen to try, but not knowing what setup I need, I have pushed it into the far corner of my head. Any recommendations how to go about it would be appreciated :-)
@ludwigsdiana I'm using a mac book pro, and I got the whole adobe suite, but I already was using a lot of the apps like InDesign. you can just get photoshop, or it's cheaper to get PS and Lightroom together.
or @graemestevens told me he uses Affinity photo which is cheaper.
however if you use a mac, the app that comes with it called photos will work with the RAW.
If you use or want to use something else you could start a discussion here on what people use - in fact that would be a really interesting discussion topic!
You are really good at following tutorials already, but to be honest, I opened my first raw image in PS and there were all these options and I started playing and just fell in love!
Since you already have PS you can probably just tell your camera to shoot in raw and jpg and start playing! That way you still have the jpgs as well :)
Congratulations! You do great work. And it's good that you have government support. It is so important.
This ear of Bullet testifies to his strong personality. Amazing portrait.
Congratulations! Sounds like a very successful event. Bullet is quite the star :)
The RAW processing is fantastic (must make the time to learn how to do this!)

So nice that you are recognized for your work with the Koalas!
Bullet looks very smug.
