When Smokey was voted as the right name way back in September, no one had any idea that the fires would go on to become what they did.
Thankfully all the colony here remain safe and are thriving - look at the fat belly!
I don't often get nice clear shots of this youngster so I'm really pleased with this detail.
It certainly is a great shot and Smokey looks very healthy and comfortable! Sure hoping and praying that the fires will be out soon and you all stay safe 🐨
I always have a sigh of relief when I read that your "bears" are doing well throughout this terrible time of fire and loss. Smokey looks like he appreciates his happy home. We have a character here in the U.S. called Smokey the Bear who is a champion for taking care of the environment. One of the ad campaigns involving him had the slogan "Only you can prevent forest fires" so every time I see this cute little fellow I always think of that. Will you be taking in any of the koalas that have been displaced by the fires?
@olivetreeann thank you Ann - in this area only a small handful of koalas that were in fire areas survived at all to be rescued I'm afraid. the few that did will go back as close as possible to where they came from as koalas do not relocate easily at all. so no, I doubt any will come here as the closest big fires were a bit too far away.
great capture
