You can't see from here but there is a short bit of branch sticking out the back that Angel is balanced on. Still she is sitting about 20 metres from the ground and not actually holding on in typical arboreal koala style.
@30pics4jackiesdiamond yes they are very territorial and except for mums raising a joey they remain loners and do social physically together. they socialise by leaving scent messages all through the bush however and have a complex colony system.
Each koala has its own home range, but it will overlap with other koalas in the colony.
Their balance is amazing. I always wonder how they do it- even when your pictures clearly show the branches and their grip! Angel sure looks cuddly here. Another great shot!
@pyrrhula healthy koalas don't fall as a rule - but sick ones do, and sometimes fighting koalas throw each other out or limbs break.
if it happens the damage can be serious - broken limbs or head injuries.
