Koala hands are quite dextrous.

To get from one tree to another, Bullet actually grabbed this thin bit of branch, pulled it closer, and climbed across! I accidentally had my camera on macro mode and took this, then hit video but it failed because it couldn't focus. But the time I corrected he was across and I had to be content to film from there. Ugh I'd just finished photographing the ornamental ginger and totally forgot. In this photo he was only a couple of feet above my head.
Wow. Interesting. What a pity you weren't able to get all the action in the correct shooting mode.

Looks like a risky move for a (don't mean to be offensive but...) a rather plump looking Koala.
March 29th, 2020
I think you need to rename him Tarzan...

@gardencat I can't describe how it was for me - fumbling with my camera and thinking, holy crap Bullet don't do that you are way too heavy for this to work!!!! yet he did it! it was way riskier than I ever expected to see.

did you know, just a fun fact, the reason they look so tubby is that hey have 2 metres of caecum (appendix) wrapped up in that belly, always full of leaves and multi billions of bacteria?

@vignouse I know right - if these trees had vines I swear they would swing the tree tops!

Nothing stops a Koala from fetching lunch!

Basically, they are like tool users. Seems quite smart really.

So cool to learn about koalas from you. A two meter long appendix that serves an important purpose!
March 30th, 2020
@dustyloup yes, eucalyptus would kill almost every other mammal so it's no wonder their digestive system is so different :) thanks for enjoying - they are a wonder
March 30th, 2020
an interesting effect nonetheless.

It's an amazing image anyway Katrina - the slightly different effect seems to go with what he's trying to do! Great catch for the lighting too! :)
