I took the new camera out on the bike with me and did some comparison shots. The old camera already feels so small and light which is what I always loved about that canon when out and about. I managed a similar quality image with the new camera which made me very happy as I still can't quickly change all the settings on the fly. That means I expect to improve as I move up that curve of learning. Also this is handheld so I need to do some serious tripod practice too.
Great shots (and cute pose:-). You did well with the new camera. The lens on the Nikon seems to be a bit sharper and it handles chromatic aberrations much better than the Canon
@ludwigsdiana I was really lucky that out of the 6 koalas I found, Eddie was about the furthest away (good for testing the zoom) and stayed pretty still so I could compare!
Ah, the new camera syndrome…it gets us all sooner or later. Strange thing here. Panasonic FZ1K had been my favourite for some time. Got an Oly EM1iii, a much better camera but really didn’t get on with it. Traded for the new OM1. Poor Pany lives in a drawer now. Hope you enjoy you new toy and soon feel really comfy with it, judging by these shots you are going to get on really well together. Have fun.
These are difficult comparisons because many elements determine the quality of the photo. In this new camera, I really like the tonal range and the way the camera deals with overexposure.
great comparison. The new camera is giving a sharper image and I think the colouring is better too. Enjoy the new - and one tip from someone who transfered from a compact to a mirrorless last year - don't forget how to use the old camera as you may find times when that is the one you want to carry around with you.
@helenhall I'm definitely going to keep using both, the smaller one is going to be way more convenient in some conditions and I hope to find the pros and cons for both so I use them both to their best
There is a difference to be sure. I keep my Canon Powershot just for moon shots. So far no other camera compares to it. But as my hands get worse from arthritis, I am using my T3i less and less and the phone or point and shoot more and more. I think you'll enjoy having both at your disposal and in time, you'll probably prefer the new camera- but all that comes to using it until you're really comfortable with it. Good shot- both times!
Great comparison! I feel the new camera is sharper (of course I am NO expert of any kind) but, know what I like! My Gosh, you are going to have some serious fun ...ENJOY!
@olivetreeann interesting you say that as the new camera has a mode specifically for moon photography so I'm keep to have a go - I'll do the comparison again!
@rickster549 yeah I'm sitting outside with it on a tripod each day, with the manual on my laptop and just fiddling and following the instructions. amazing though how some things are pretty much exactly the same, then others are nothing alike. good for the brain I'm telling myself!
Great shots, both, but the one from your new camera is definitely sharper. I've been planning a change of camera for a few years now, but keep putting it off! One day, it will happen. Enjoy!
Thanks
