The butcher bird is related to the magpie but they are a different breed. The butcher bird has a hooked beak and they are awesome predators which always seems odd when their song is so incredibly beautiful and melodic. Thank you for the many comments and favs that put bb on the PP and TP yesterday, I hope you enjoy this one as much

@gigiflower besides they are a little smaller, usually the bb have this classic black bib and white stomach - and if still not sure the bb has a very pronounced hook on the end of the upper beak that the maggie doesn't

@888rachel oh yes both are incredible song birds but have quite a different song to each other and both juveniles are mottled brown - they are very similar birds and of course don't forget the magpie lark adds another level of confusion to telling them all apart :)
