I was literally laying on the ground, less than a metre away from this bearded dragon to take this photo (this is not the one I've been photographing lately!). I was very surprised to see the reflection of the eastern horizon in his eye when I went to process this - I think it's amazing anyway. Thank you for the many thoughtful comments on my photos.
@vignouse well the big one I photograph most has a huge flight distance, so we play at me pretending not to see her. This one was just so still that I lay down beside it! I had one recently in a garden this quiet, maybe the same one - they are harder to id!
But as a child I used to catch them and play with them and had some as pets til a neighbour opened the hutch and let them out. In the city (where I grew up, near poppo livy) they are pretty used to people and I bet most aussie children play with lizards!
