This lovely fella is a huntsman spider and he was actually alive. He is on an outside wall of the house and I don't know why he was in this position as it's a little odd, but he soon scuttled off. With those huge legs stretched out he would have been way larger than my hand.
It's a little funny because most aussies don't take much notice of these as they are not agressive and are common, so we are so used to them. But they seem to be a source of real fear for overseas visitors.
We know some of the tiny spiders are the nasty venomous ones, these giants are pretty gentle, but they can jump so that is kind of a fun party trick ;)

@happysnaps oh so funny, yes spiders do yoga all the time. I thought he was dead as they so often end in this shape, but nah he was just fine, and maybe he was also very zen
Wow... I would be one of those frightened ones - huge and jumps?! Yeah... I'll pass but I do enjoy his photo as he's intriguing! Leg cramp? LOL but then I look at that face... straight out of Hollywood - Must have been the inspiration for Predator as he totally looks like it - He is a beautiful creature - especially now that you've let me know he's a mild mannered fellow :-) Happy New Year!
I love huntsman spiders - I am often the one at school who has to relocate them from classroom to tree hahaha - they do move very quickly though so often make me jump LOL
