This is the first time I've seen a red necked wallaby on the property - and isn't he a stunner! I have only seen swamp wallabies before. I suspect that I see only a small percentage of the wildlife that know my property well :)
Thank you for so many awesome questions and comments on my photos.
@graemestevens we were playing 'statues' - each time he turned away I snuck closer, then froze when he would look around again :) He was a little surprised I managed to get to this spot I think!
@30pics4jackiesdiamond not a silly question at all if you've not seen roos and wallabies before :) wallabies are smaller than kangaroos and once you've seen both it is quite a difference.
Then more subtle differences include colours - kangaroos tend to be a single colour with only slight shading differences through the body, while wallabies are two or three colours. You can clearly see here the white chest and facial stripes :)
@jacqbb compared to a roo, he's quite small - he would stand about a metre tall and probably weigh around 18 kg or 40 lb or so. @30pics4jackiesdiamond An eastern grey kangaroo on the other hand (and some of our members here photograph these) might weigh up to 66kg or 146 lb - so that is a difference you can just immediately 'see' :)
